THE STAFF

The Manager of our home is Mrs Mary McGrath  R.M.A, R.N.M.H. NVQ level 4 in Management, D32 and D33 Assessors Qualification. Mary has worked in the care field for over 20 years, most of which was spent working for charity and a brief spell in the private sector.

Most of our care staff  have extensive experience in working either in a hospital environment or a residential home, however all staff within the home are offered training and development.

For new staff we have a fairly comprehensive induction and foundation package that is completed over the first six months of employment with a senior member of staff. Part of this is linked to the NVQ units and will assist the staff when they work towards achieving their NVQ qualification.

Moving and handling courses are mandatory and they consist of a two day course to begin with and then a yearly refresher course to maintain awareness of any changes in the current regulations. This is a certificated course.

Basic food and hygiene courses also form part of the staff's development. This is also a certificated course.

The home has six experienced Senior Care staff each who have now commenced their NVQ level 2 training in line with the Commission for Social Care Inspection requirements.

In the Kitchen we have five staff who are appropriately trained in food hygiene and all hold certificates in hygiene and cleanliness. They work to provide attractive and varied meals with an adequate choice of menu. In March 2005 they were awarded the silver medal certificate for cleanliness and hygiene after an unannounced inspection by an Enviromental Health officer.

The cleanliness of the home and laundry service is met by a team of seven domestic/laundry staff. Each has a sense of extreme pride in ensuring that clothes are laundered correctly and the home, including each of the residents' rooms are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness at all times.

The general maintenance of the home and grounds are the responsibility of two gardeners/handymen. We also have a full time Maintenance Manager who is also responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety and is certificated in this area.

Further courses are available for staff  throughout the year of which we encourage staff to take part in. These include the following:

*Health and Safety

*Fire Safety

*Protection of Vulnerable Adults from Abuse

*Care Programming

*Death and Bereavement.

*Manual Handling
